‘We’re coming for you’: Seven arrested in dawn raids as police close net on Manchester’s ‘criminal web’

Seven men were arrested in a series of dawn raids in Stockport today in a bid to close in on an ‘extensive criminal web’ involved in drugs, weapons and burglaries.

They have been arrested on suspicion of assault and aggravated burglary following a string of violent home invasions during which homeowners were either threatened or attacked.

One Brinnington assault, on June 12, resulted in the homeowner being attacked with a machete leaving him with a deep cut to the arm.

The other aggravated burglaries took place on June 22 and 23, also in Brinnington.

Detective Sergeant Matt Tarr said that some people may have been victims of mistaken identity.

He said: “We believe the gang responsible for these violent attacks and home invasions are involved in an extensive criminal web that involves drugs, weapons and burglaries.

“During one assault the homeowner suffered a nasty wound to his arm as a result of being attacked with a machete so clearly those responsible are dangerous and have no qualms about resorting to violence.

“We know that residents want us to take a tough stand against those involved in the supply of drugs and other criminality that destroys the fabric of the communities we serve.

“I hope today sends a message to the community, including the criminal fraternity, that we will not allow people to be terrorised in their own homes and we will be coming for anyone who is involved.”

Anyone who has information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
