False ‘knight in shining armour’ subjects injured teen to horrific rape ordeal in Levenshulme park

By Amelia Goswell

A man offered to drive an injured teenager to the hospital before subjecting her to a horrifying rape in Levenshulme on Saturday.

The 19-year-old woman was walking along Moseley Road in Fallowfield, sometime after 6am when she was seen by the man in a car, possibly a taxi.

He then offered to take her to hospital as she had visible injuries following an earlier unrelated incident, before raping her in Nutsford Vale Park, off Matthews Lane.

Detective Inspector Simon Davies, of the Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “The victim must have initially thought this man was being a knight in shining armour, offering to take her to hospital.

“However, events rapidly took a turn for the worse and he subjected her to a horrific rape ordeal.

“At this stage we do not know if the man was a legitimate taxi driver or if he simply spotted an opportunity to entice a vulnerable woman into his car.”

Following the attack, the victim made her way out into Newdale Road in a distressed state where she called the police.

The victim is now being supported by specially-trained officers and an investigation has been launched.

The offender is described as a mixed race man, aged between 30 and 40 years. He was about 5″10′ with a medium build and short dark hair, and spoke with a foreign accent.

DI Davies added: “This remains a horrible attack and we are determined to bring the offender to justice.

“With that in mind I now want to hear from anyone who may have seen this car or the offender at both the pick-up point and the point where she emerged onto Newdale Road.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
