‘If I die, I die’: Fans fear for Morrissey after he reveals cancer treatment

Manchester music legend Morrissey has admitted to receiving treatment for cancer.

The 55-year-old, who rose to prominence in the 1980’s, revealed that he has been privately suffering with the disease.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, he explained how he has undergone a series of treatments.

“They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever,” he said.

“If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do.

“I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.”

The How Soon Is Now? singer was forced to cancel a string of live dates back in June, citing health problems as the reason.

The Smiths formed in 1982 and have been described as one of the most influential British bands of all time.

Several Smiths singles reaching the UK top-20 and all four of their studio albums charted in the UK top-five before they split in 1987.

However, in his interview Morrissey described how he’s reached an age when he ‘should no longer be making music’.

“Many composers of classical music died at age 34. And I’m still here, and nobody knows what to do with me,” he said.

“With luck I will be able to stop singing forever, which would make many people happy!”

And fans took to Twitter to wish the singer well:

Morrissey, first name Steven, is no stranger to controversy having said earlier this year that celebrity chef Jamie Oliver should be ‘gassed’ in his latest ‘Meat is Murder’ rant against carnivorous celebrities.
