Cafe Football’s Michelin star signing: Giggs and Neville seal deal with Hair Metal chef

Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have hired Michelin star chef Michael O’Hare as the creative director for their business, GG Hospitality.

O’Hare shot to national prominence during the summer, as his unique, futuristic slant on cuisine earnt him a spot in the final banquet on popular TV show The Great British Menu.

Since the filming of GBM, his Leeds restaurant The Man Behind The Curtain has been awarded a coveted Michelin star, and his latest announcement ensures that 2016 has started on an equally good footing.

Manchester United legends Giggs and Neville have developed a hospitality portfolio since retirement consisting of Hotel Football and Café Football outside of Old Trafford, and a second Café Football site in Stratford.

O’Hare will now be responsible for all of the group’s culinary output, something which United assistant manager Giggs described as ‘truly exciting’.

“Since the opening of Hotel Football, GG Hospitality has gone from strength to strength,” he said.

“As our business evolves, it’s imperative that we move forward with the best team around us and I’m confident that Michael will help us in achieving further success.”

Valencia manager Neville, who acts as the Director of the company, added: “I met Michael in October last year and instantly knew that he was the man for us.

“I’ve dined at The Man Behind the Curtain and can honestly say that I’ve never experienced anything like it.

“Michael’s skills, attitude and attention to detail are exactly what we require across all our GG projects and we’ve no doubt that he is a perfect match for us.”

Given the success of The Man Behind The Curtain – which currently boasts a 12 month waiting list to eat there on a weekend, with an 11 course tasting menu costing £65 – the duo will see O’Hare’s capture as a coup for GG Hospitality.

And the Yorkshireman revealed that it was Neville’s famous enthusiasm that drew him to the role.

“The moment Gary and I started to discuss the project, I knew I wanted to be involved,” O’Hare said.

“His passion and enthusiasm immediately drew me in and the vision both him and Ryan have for enhancing the GG Hospitality offering, felt like a natural fit for me.”
