Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez could face a prison sentence after he was arrested last night on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

The 29-year-old was taken to Macclesfield police station on Thursday evening, after being pulled over by officers on the edge of the town.

Tevez was banned from driving for six months in January, after pleading guilty to two counts of failing to supply information over speeding incidents.

A statement from Cheshire police said: "At 5.13pm on Thursday 7 March police arrested a 29-year-old man from Alderley Edge on the A538 in Macclesfield on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

“He has since been released on police bail."

As well as the Argentine’s ban in January, he was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £1,540.

His lawyer had informed Manchester Magistrates Court Tevez failed to respond to police letters because he did not understand the word ‘constabulary’.
