Both Manchester clubs are continuing their quest for contentinal gold tonight as United host Athletic Bilbao and City play Sporting Lisbon away in the Europa League round of 16.

City are against Portuguese opposition again after demolishing reigning champions Porto in the last round 6-1 on aggregate including a 4-0 home win.

United survived a scare as Ajax inflicted a rare home defeat on Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, but their victory in the away leg secured their progress 3-2 on aggregate.

Roberto Mancini will be without the injured Pablo Zabaleta and the suspended Yaya Toure but could welcome back Micah Richards to his squad.

Carlos Tevez will not feature as he is not registered in City’s Europa League squad following the saga surrounding the Argentine’s actions in Germany last year.

City head in to this clash – kick off 6pm GMT – on the back of four consecutive victories in the Premier League and have kept four clean sheets in the process.

At Old Trafford tonight, United host Bilbao who squeezed past Lokomotiv Moscow in the last round on the away goals rule after the two legs ended 2-2.

Ferguson will be looking for a better performance from his team tonight who managed to knock arguably stronger opposition out in the last round.

The omens are good for United – the Spanish team, currently fifth in La Liga, have never beaten an English team in eight attempts over the years.

Ferguson could welcome back Anderson, Chris Smalling and Tom Cleverley but veteran midfielder Paul Scholes is set to miss out.

United’s game is live on Channel 5 tonight from 7.30pm.
