Man, 65, killed in Longsight car crash after suffering ‘medical episode’ at the wheel

A man was killed in a road traffic collision after allegedly suffering a medical episode at the wheel in Longsight yesterday.

The 65-year-old man was involved in the incident which took place on Birch Hall Lane around 7.40pm.

Officers attended the scene where a silver Skoda Fabia had collided with another vehicle and had then crashed into a parked van.

The man was trapped inside the vehicle but was then removed by officers and taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment but died shortly after.

Sergeant Paul Higgins from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with this man’s family and friends at this tragic time, they are being supported by one of our Family Liaison Officers.

“It is believed that this man suffered a medical episode just prior to the crash, but a team of officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are working to establish exactly how this man came about his death.

“If anyone saw the collision, saw the Skoda prior to the collision, or if they have any information that may assist us, I would urge them to contact police as soon as possible on 0161 856 4742.”
