Euro 2012 arrived in Salford as the BBC stayed at MediaCityUK to cover the opening match today.

Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen, Lee Dixon and guest pundit Clarence Seedorf kicked off the pre-match coverage between Poland and 2004 champions Greece from their new northern home.

After severe budget reductions following controversy over their lavish base at the South Africa 2010 World Cup Finals the BBC Sport team have decided to stay in Salford, at least until the quarter-finals.

And the majority of live broadcasts will come from the city as only a small team of match commentators, presenters and production staff have travelled to Poland and Ukraine.

One disappointed fan Tweeted: “Not liking the Beebs coverage from Salford. I like my presenters to present from where the tournament is.”

England’s first game takes place against France this Monday.
