Dishing up the past: A foodie first as Manchester festival to host ‘bio-historic banquet’

Manchester aims to make history this September as it sets to pioneer the first ever 'Bio-Historic Banquet' at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival.

In a culinary first, chef Robert Owen Brown and Manchester Biospheric Foundation, will invite diners to feast on a uniquely-designed banquet of ‘ultra-local’ gourmet food surrounded by some of Manchester Museum’s finest exhibits.

Diners will also hear from some of Manchester Museum’s curators between courses, and choose meals from a menu inspired by ingredients ranging from those used in Ancient Egyptian botany, through to ones used today.

While the menu remains a closely-guarded secret, Robert Owen revealed: “I’ve created a menu that fuses modern Manchester with ingredients and cookery that’s literally been around since Ancient Egypt and even Paleolithic times.

“I’m really looking forward to showcasing it in one of Manchester’s most spectacular settings.”

Customers can expect to dine under the shadow of a giant whale skeleton, mojito cocktails using mint picked on-site at the museum, and other local ingredients that are inspired by the Museum’s exhibits.

Phil Jones, from Manchester Food and Drink Festival, said: “We’re very pleased to launch this superb event, one of the highlights from this year’s programme.

“The festival team has worked harder than ever this year to curate a festival that not only showcases the impressive range of food and drink talent in Manchester, but also creates culinary opportunities and experiences with a real difference.”

The event will take place on Saturday September 12 at 6:30pm at Manchester Museum.

Tickets are now on sale at £50, which include a six-course menu and drinks reception.
