Staying put: Manchester United target Cesc Fabregas confirms he has no intention of leaving Barcelona

By Colin Rhodes

Manchester United’s desperation to land a midfielder this summer has been cranked up to 11 as Cesc Fabregas spoke of his desire to remain at Barcelona.

United have had two bids rejected for the former Arsenal captain this summer, and his comments at a news conference yesterday should effectively end their hopes of signing him.

“My dream has always been to play at Barça and nothing has changed,” Fabregas told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur .

“I’m very, very happy here and I never thought about leaving.”

Despite persistent rumours that Fabregas is unhappy at the Camp Nou his comments will put a definitive end to speculation linking him to Old Trafford

“I never had any doubt. It has cost me a lot to return to Barça and now I want to triumph here,” he said.

“I didn’t have to clear up anything, because for me it was clear I wanted to stay.

“I told the club I’d talk when it was my turn. I’ve always felt valued by the club. Everyone told me they count on me, I never got any sign that made me think otherwise.”

United are now likely to turn their attentions to Everton’s Marouane Fellaini who is likely to be less expensive but may prove just as troublesome to secure with the Toffees seemingly intent on hanging on to one of their most prized assets.
