Gay Village’s AXM nightclub closes after 12 years – and people are DEVASTATED

The Gay Village’s AXM nightclub has closed its doors for the last time.

The venue – located on Bloom Street, just off Canal Street – held its final club night on Saturday.

A Facebook post revealed that while the fun was ending in Manchester, the brand would be continuing with its site in Glasgow.

The announcement read: “We’ve made some unforgettable memories and we’re sure you have too so let’s go out with a bang!

“You can still find us in Glasgow and Haydn’s legacy will live on through the continued work of the AXM Foundation.”

It’s fair to say that many revellers have been left broken-hearted by the shock closure.

So much so that some have taken to social media to reveal that they had been left ‘distraught’ by the news.

One party-goer tweeted: “Can’t believe our beloved AXM is closing, Manchester Canal Street will never be the same.”

While another added: “As if axm has closed in Manchester.”

A third simply concluded: “I can’t believe AXM in Manchester has closed I’m distraught.”

AXM first opened its doors in 2004 and quickly earned a place in clubber’s hearts due to its inclusive atmosphere and late opening hours.

As well as sites in Manchester and Glasgow, AXM also operated in Malta and Prague – however these two venues have also closed now.

Last year, AXM owner Haydn Pope sadly died of cancer aged 49.

At the time, a Facebook post revealed: “With great sadness I have to share with you some very sad news.

“The owner of AXM, Haydn Pope, passed away peacefully this afternoon after losing his fight with cancer.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with his family. Today we lost an amazing man and a great friend.”
