Operation Cairo sees five drug dealers removed from streets of Greater Manchester in dawn raids

Five people were arrested this morning after a series of drug raids were executed across Greater Manchester in an operation that has so far seen 52 people jailed.

Operation Cairo saw officers arrest five people shortly after 6.30am who are suspected of possessing class B drugs with intent to supply, possessing a firearm and ammunition.

The raids were executed on seven homes in Cheetham Hill, Oldham and south Manchester where the five men, aged between 27 and 29 remain in custody.

Operation Cairo has so far seen 52 people being sentenced to a total of 147 years in prison for drug dealing on the streets of Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall over the last 18 months.

Superintendent Vanessa Jardine said: “Today’s arrests follow on from a warrant we executed in June where cannabis, with the estimated street value of £250,000, was seized alongside firearms, ammunition, heroin and cocaine.

“We said we would never become complacent and would continue to clampdown on drug dealing in North Manchester and I hope these arrests show the community that we have not stopped and we will not stop.

“We have cleaned up the streets of Cheetham Hill by removing dealers who had the audacity to sell drugs in broad daylight and today’s action is taking the next step.”

Anyone with information about those involved in drug-related activity in their area should call police at North Manchester on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
