Stoked: Patrice Evra has Potters in sights as Manchester United look to secure title after derby defeat

By Chris Bailey

A bullish Patrice Evra believes Manchester United will show they still rule the roost in the Premier League – starting with Stoke City on Sunday.

Defeat in the Manchester derby was the first Red Devils league loss since November, in which time United have stormed into a 12-point lead over the Blues.

And Evra – who has notched four goals from left-back this season – dismissed suggestions that the league table is lying

“We must make sure we win at Stoke and show we are the best team in England,” Evra told MUTV.

“I heard a lot of people talking about us being 15 points clear and that we didn’t deserve to be. But if that’s where we are it’s because we’re working hard.

“We are still in a great position but we have to take things game by game and not put pressure on ourselves.”

Sergio Aguero’s surging run and strike sank United after a Vincent Kompany own goal – forced by Phil Jones – drew United level with James Milner’s opener.

While Evra is adamant United will bounce back after claiming he has never lost consecutive games, but admits the defeat is a heartbreaking blow.

“When you’re a Man United player losing to City is painful,” he added. “We played much better in the second half and I really believed we could win the game.

“But the second goal killed our legs. It was a bad night for us.

“Since I’ve been here I’ve never lost two games in a row. That’s why I hope we’ll keep going against Stoke and win.”
