CCTV: Terrifying moment masked gang attack police car with paving slabs and baseball bats in Stockport

By Glen Keogh

CCTV footage below shows the terrifying moment a police car was attacked with a paving slab and baseball bats by a masked gang in North Reddish.

The thugs were careering around the town in a stolen Audi A6 when officers on patrol tried to stop the car on Windmill Lane at around 12.35am on Sunday.

It eventually comes to a stop, and a man wearing a balaclava can be seen jumping out of the driver’s seat before hurling a slab at the patrol car’s windscreen.

Chief Inspector Mark Dexter, from GMP’s Road Policing Unit, said it was just lucky no officers were hurt.

“This could easily have been a very different story,” he said. “The attack highlights again the dangers that officers face and the levels of violence that criminals are prepared to use to secure their escape.

“We are determined to catch those responsible. If you have any information about this incident, or if you know who the man in the CCTV footage is, please get in touch as your information could be vital to our investigation.”

The gang then got back into the car and drove off and it was later found abandoned on High Bank in Denton.

The police also want to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle prior to it being dumped in Denton.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
