Trafford’s ‘buzzing art hub’ to be showcased in Sale Arts Trail – fusing food, music and galleries

Sale is a ‘buzzing art hub’ for the south of Manchester – and a three-day art festival plans to showcase its many talents this weekend.

The Sale Arts Trail has been set up by three artists to showcase the talents of Sale residents between July 11 and 13.

Sophie Nixon, Jo Lavelle and Sarah Malone, organisers of the upcoming event, have designed the project in order to demonstrate the music, galleries, gardens, cafes and art Sale has to offer.

All the events occurring over the weekend are free and open to anyone who wants to go.

Sophie Nixon is a fine art graduate whose paintings have featured in The Lowry Hotel, Chorlton Arts Festival and now Manchester’s Atlas Bar.

She said: “We had all left organised studios; Bankley in Levenshulme for Sarah and myself and the mcdc for Jo and set up our own studios at home.

“We missed the company and discussion of being part of a group and came up with the idea of the Sale Arts Trail to bring ourselves and other professional local artists and makers together.

“We were amazed by the support the local business community has offered us including four cafés and the Sale Waterside allowing us to show in their spaces.”

The events taking place over the weekend include Simon Buckley’s photography lecture on July 13 at 11am at the Waterside Arts Centre.

Following this, at 2pm that day Sallow Tree Concerts present a Chamber Music Party at the King’s Ransom in Sale at 2pm on Sunday.

Cheryl Law, the Artistic Director of Sallow Tree Concerts, from Sale, said: “Sale Arts Trail is a really exciting new venture for Sale which is pushing our town to the forefront of the arts scene in the North West.

“It is the result of months of hard work from three artists striving to link up the many artists living in our locality and bring visual arts right into the centre of our community.

“I’ve always known that Sale is fantastic hub for professional musicians, but the arts trail is exposing quite how many artists of all disciplines live here, demonstrating how Sale has grown and developed into an arts hub with a buzzing vibrancy.”
