Brazen thugs threaten to ‘CHOP UP’ Gorton betting shop employee during peak-time robbery

By Danielle Wainwright

Two thugs brandishing a metal bar robbed a busy betting shop and threatened to ‘chop up’ an employee in Gorton last week.

The incident occurred at around 6.40pm on Wednesday when two men, one who was armed with a metal bar, entered Coral betting shop on Mount Road.

The men then demanded cash and threatened to ‘chop up’ one employee if he did not comply.

The robbers then fled with money from a till as well as a store telephone.

Detective Constable Nick Fernandes said: “The offenders made some fairly unusual and disturbing threats during this robbery that have left the victim shaken.

“The shop was fairly busy and the fact that they were not deterred by this, coupled with their confidence in entering staff areas and making these threats, suggests to me they are not unfamiliar with violence or criminality.

“I want anyone who saw what happened to come forward but I am also urging the local community to pull together and help us trace these two.

“If you have heard someone talking about this at any point or think you know who is responsible please call us, any information you provide will be treated in strict confidence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3832 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
