Oldham Athletic boss Lee Johnson hopes Sky cameras will get Latics ‘buzzing’ and inspire win over Preston

By Matthew Lees

Oldham Athletic are hoping the presence of Sky cameras in tonight’s clash with Preston North End will inspire the Latics to victory in a ‘difficult’ match.

Ahead of their third Lancashire derby this season, Preston go into the game  having lost just once this campaign while Oldham have endured a mixed start.

However, Athletic have scored nine times in their three away games this season and impressed in front of the cameras during last season’s FA Cup run.

“It is great for the players to appear in front of the cameras and hopefully it will have a great effect and have them all buzzing,” manager Lee Johnson told the club website.

“Preston are unbeaten in the league and a well organised side. It will be a good test for us.

“But if we put in another performance like the ones so far away from home, there is every chance of getting a positive result.”

Deadline day capture Genseric Kusunga has received his international clearance but Kirk Millar, Carl Winchester and Edijs Joksts are missing because of their international commitments.

Charlie MacDonald and Cristian Montano are back from injury while former Tic Paul Rachubka is available after signing a short-term contract until January helping to add more experience to the squad.

“Paul has been with us for some time and his experience is something we need,” added Johnson.

“Mark Oxley has done well, but we need to push him so it is good to have a keeper of Paul’s experience.”

The match kicks-off at the earlier time of 7:35pm while Oldham will return to Deepdale on the week beginning October 7 for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round after the draw was made on Saturday.
