Manchester City and GMP set to collaborate with Man Met Uni for Volunteering Fair

Manchester City FC and Greater Manchester Police are among the organisations offering the opportunity to get involved through Manchester Metropolitan University’s Volunteering Fair.

The Union MMU will host over 50 stalls on Wednesday, as local and national organisations seek to recruit students and local residents to their respective causes.

Sarah-Beth Cooper, community officer at the Union, which represents 37,000 students, believes that volunteering is a mutually beneficial relationship.

“Volunteering is an excellent way of helping those most in need in our communities,” she said.

“As well as being a rewarding thing to do, volunteering helps you develop your own skills, benefit from new experiences, and provide a variety of social benefits!”

Events such as this maintain a consistent local and charitable spirit that runs through the Union, having recently been involved in the Fallowfield Community Fun Fest, as well as Street2Feet, a football tournament for the homeless.

The diversity of the initiatives and the student community is represented in next Wednesday’s fair, which is organised alongside Volunteer Centre Manchester.

With charities ranging from The Pankhurst Centre, a women’s community centre and museum hosting the birthplace of the suffragette movement, to NSPCC Childline, Ms Cooper believes that everyone will be able to find something that piques their interest.

“We hold a Volunteering Fair every year and this time around we’re opening to the public and everyone is welcome.

“There will be a wide range of charity groups here – from big organisations to smaller local groups, so come and try something new!”

The fair runs from 11:00 to 15:00 on Wednesday October 14 in the main hall of The Union MMU on Higher Cambridge Street.
