‘Logical result’: Manchester City happy to settle for a point at Southampton as Bayern Munich trip looms large

By Alan Ross

Manuel Pellegrini was happy to settle for a point at Southampton as his side focus on their Tuesday night fixture against Bayern Munich.

Sergio Aguero netted his eleventh goal in ten games giving City an early lead but Dani Osvaldo equalised for the Saints earning them a point.

Pellegrini said that despite having the chances to win the game outright that he felt a draw was a fair result.

“I am pleased with a point because I think both teams deserved a point – I think it was a logical result,” the Chilean told reporters.

“The result is a good point for us, we didn’t play better than Southampton – they played well.

“I think we started well but then we started to lose the ball too easily – it’s very difficult to play against that Southampton team when you are always running behind the ball.”

The City boss was disappointed that they could not build on their victory at West Brom in the week but acknowledged that Southampton made it hard for his team.

“It was a very tough game for our team. If you see the position of Southampton in the table, it’s a good position considering that they have lost their last few matches” he continued.

“I know how Pochettino likes his teams to play and they did very well.”

With Arsenal  visiting the Etihad next weekend, a game Pellegrini described  as ‘very important’, midfielder James Milner is fully focused on the away match in the Champions League against Bayern.

“It is obviously going to be a tough game,” he said.

“We have nothing to lose as we have qualified but if we beat them well we might have half a chance of winning the group but it is going to be very tough to do that.

“We know how good a team they are but we will go there and, hopefully, put on a good performance and see where it takes us.”
