Roberto Mancini’s gushing for Manchester United’s talisman Robin van Persie has inspired Carlos Tevez to recapture his manager’s admiration, the Argentinian revealed.

Losing the captaincy, regular starting position and respect from many involved with the club has left Tevez struggling to recapture his ruthlessness in front of goal of when he first made the move across Manchester.

And since the Flying Dutchman’s £24million transfer to Old Trafford, his 20 goals had Manchester City’s Mancini claiming he will most likely be the difference in the Premier League title race.

"Those words were a motivation for the strikers," Tevez reportedly said.

"We know that we need to carry on fighting. United lost some games last season and we were back on track, so we will keep doing our job.

"There's a long way to go and a lot of games to play. The emotion of the Premier League means it's always a fight to the end.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men currently lead their derby rivals by seven points, and could stretch the gap by ten when they host Liverpool this Sunday.

City, playing in the day’s late kick-off, travel to Arsenal with the hope of continuing their hunt to retain their title.

"If United lose one game, we'll be getting close to them. They will know that,” Tevez added.

"We want to keep winning, to keep fighting for the title. I will try to help us to compete on both fronts, the Premier League and FA Cup, and try to win both."
