Bury Asda attack: Appeal after security guard left with ‘life-changing’ injuries

A security guard was left with ‘life-changing injuries’ after being violently pushed to the floor by a trouble-maker at a Bury supermarket.

GMP have now released a CCTV still of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The incident occurred at the Asda store on Pilsworth Road at about 1.25am on January 31 after two men were caught riding pallet trucks.

The security guard tracked one of the culprits down and began escorting him out of the supermarket, but as they were leaving, the other culprit jumped on the back of the security guard and violently pushed him from behind, causing him to fall to the floor.

The force of the blow left the shopworker with a compound fracture to his right arm which has now permanently effected his mobility.

Police Constable Mark Robertson said: “For simply doing his job, and trying to prevent two men from injuring themselves by foolishly riding around on a pallet truck, this security guard has been left with life-changing injuries so it is vital we trace the offender.

“The culprits were riding around the store on a pallet truck potentially putting themselves and others in danger ,and the security guard was just trying to restore order.

“For his troubles, he was pushed to the ground and left with a compound fracture.”

The suspected offender was said to be bald and wearing a high visibility jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
