Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck showed off his samba skills ahead of England’s opening World Cup clash on Saturday.
The Three Lions man, 23, was first up to try his hand at the Brazilian dancing/fighting style Capoeira in a visit to the Rocinha Sports Complex in one of Rio de Janiero’s largest favelas.
With the meeting with Italy in Manus on the horizon, Welbeck was a little restrained as he threw some shapes – but still managed to share a pretty swish handstand with the watching children.
“They caught me off guard, man,” said Welbeck. “We just got told to stand outside and one of them was dragging me into the middle and it was like ‘what’s going on here?’”
Ex-Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge, who was in red-hot form for Liverpool, made a better attempt at the ‘Matrix slow-mo moves’ as Roy Hodgson’s men went on the charm offensive in South America.
Keeper Fraser Forster snapped a selfie with kids, while Adam Lallana laughed and joked with them before the England players joined in some low-intensity matches – wrapping their metatarsals in cotton wool in the process.
Welbeck has eight goals in 23 appearances for England and improved his United tally this season to ten goals in all competitions, despite their Old Trafford struggles under sacked boss David Moyes.
