Stone Roses lead thousands in tributes to fan Chris Brahney found dead in Manchester Ship Canal

The Stone Roses are leading tributes for fan Chris Brahney who was found dead in Manchester Ship Canal yesterday.

The 22-year-old, of Timperley, was discovered in the waterway near Salford Quays after his disappearance following the band’s Heaton Park gig on June 29.

More than 120,000 people joined a Facebook group to help search for Mr Brahney and since police confirmed the identity of the person found, tributes have poured in.

Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni said: “We’d like to extend our sincerest condolences to Christopher’s family and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly sad time.”

Ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher said: “My thoughts are with Christopher Brahney’s family and friends.”


CHRIS BRAHNEY: The 22-year-old was missing for ten days

The Courteeners lead singer Liam Fray said: “So sad about Chris Brahney. The Courteeners send their love to his family and all of his friends.”

A Manchester City spokesman said: "The thoughts of everyone at MCFC are with the friends and family of Chris Brahney following today's sad news."

XFM Manchester DJ and former Inspiral Carpets members Clint Boon said: "It's the saddest thing. As a father and a music lover i'm completely gutted. All my love to Chris's family. I feel some of your pain."

A post mortem examination will take place today to determine the cause of Chris’ death.
