Mind the gap… Man City must pile pressure on Arsenal in Premier League – Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini is ready to turn his attention back to Premier League success after Saturday’s FA Cup victory away to Norwich.

Sergio Aguero, Kelechi Iheanacho and Kevin De Bruyne scored at Carrow Road as Man City secured a comfortable win to progress to the FA Cup fourth round.

Pellegrini has now set his sights on returning to the top of the Premier league when they take on Everton on Wednesday after competing in the League and FA Cups.

“It’s very important to be focused game by game, we’ve played in the FA Cup and now we must return to the Premier League,” the Chilean manager said.

“We have to play two games at home and it’s very important that we try to reduce the gap that we have with Arsenal.

“For the moment they played very well and now we must choose which is the best team to start against Everton.”

City’s strength in depth was embodied by Iheanacho’s man of the match performance against the Canaries, and he has now scored or assisted four goals in three starts this season.

Alongside Iheanacho, some of City’s regular starters produced again, as De Bruyne’s goal means he has been involved in 21 goals in 27 Man City appearances.

Most importantly however, City fans would have been delighted to see Aguero find the net again, for the fifth time in his last five FA Cup games.

Pellegrini had particular praise for the improving Aguero following his performance, although he had kind words for the entire team performance.

“When Sergio starts playing more games, he always improves his performance,” the 62-year-old City manager said.

“He scored a beautiful goal and I’m sure that every game he plays he will perform because we know that he is a top player.

“It was a very good performance against a difficult team at their own stadium where they are in a good moment.

“I think that from the beginning we were a very aggressive team and we came for the win.”
