A reveller may lose his sight in one eye after a being victim to a vicious attack on a night out in Manchester's Northern Quarter this weekend.

Police were called to Hula Bar, on Stevenson Square at 00:40 on Saturday night and paramedics treated the 23-year-old man for an injury to his right eye.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Constable Phil Marsh said: “We are still in the process of establishing exactly what has happened and the events leading up to this man suffering a very nasty injury as a result of being attacked.

“He has suffered a severe injury to his eye and is still undergoing treatment at hospital and for his sake and that of his family we hope the injury does not prove as serious as we currently fear.

“It is very important we speak to as many people as possible who may have either witnessed the attack itself or have information about what happened to come forward.

“If you were in the bar and you saw what happened or perhaps overheard something then we need to speak to you as you could have vital information.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 3221 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
