Sugar & Spice, Manchester’s biggest free festival for lesbian and bisexual women, returns this weekend with a very musical theme.
The event, this year titled ‘Women Out Loud’, will celebrate women making their voices heard with a series of social events surrounding culture, history and activism.
This year’s panel discussion, ‘The Tunes That Matter’, is styled on Desert Island Discs and will include a panel of inspirational lesbian and bisexual women sharing stories about songs that are significant to them.
Sitting on the panel will be Gaydio presenter Emma Goswell, Hulme councillor Mary Murphy, Ajah UK band member Jaheda Choudhury-Potter and poet, broadcaster and Church of England priest Rachel Mann.
Sugar & Spice, which is hosted by the LGBT Foundation, welcomes anybody who self-identifies as a woman some or all of the time and is lesbian, bisexual or questioning their sexual orientation, including non-binary or gender-fluid people who want to access a women’s space.
Women’s Programme Coordinator for LGBT Foundation, Claudia Carvell, said: “We are so excited to be marking the 10th anniversary of Sugar and Spice this year, and our first as LGBT Foundation.
“Hundreds of self-identifying lesbian and bisexual women, people with non-binary identities and their friends from Greater Manchester (and beyond) will be joining us over the weekend to enjoy a fantastic festival of events and each other’s company.
“We have strived to make this women-centred event inclusive and memorable, and can’t wait to celebrate International Women’s Day with all of you.”
Sugar & Spice 10: Women Out Loud will take place at LGBT Foundation, 5 Richmond Street, Manchester M1 3HF tomorrow and Sunday.
