Boxing masterclass reveals tricks of the trade: Ricky Hatton to give ‘sweet science’ showcase in Hyde workshop

By Ed Owen

Ricky Hatton will offer fight fans the chance to learn the ‘sweet science’ of boxing from the best when he hosts his own Hatton Academy workshop in Hyde next month.

Having taken the unbeaten Sergey Rabchenko to European glory, the Hitman has established himself as one of boxing’s best up-and-coming trainers.

And now – following on from previous session leaders Scott Quigg and Martin Murray – he looks set to pass the tools of the trade on to participants during his three hour workshop on May 10.

“I’m looking forward to my boxing workshop and following on from our huge successes we had with the ones Martin Murray and Scott Quigg held,” said the former world champion.

“I always have and always will have time for fans of mine and boxing in general.

“This will be great for me to do so again and I can show them a few tricks of the trade which have worked for me in the ring.”

Hyde-born Hatton will be showcasing the circuits he uses to get his fighters into top condition so those taking part – usually fitness professionals – can apply them to their own fitness regimes.

The 34-year-old can certainly expect enthusiastic students – within 24 hours of going on sale, all the places for his workshop were snapped up.

Speaking about the session, Jon Eade – Hatton Academy’s training and educational director – said: “This is an amazing opportunity for people to get an insight into Ricky’s training.

“Ricky’s workshop is interesting because not only is he an ex-world champion boxer, but also a top class trainer.

“The bookings have been unbelievable, the workshop pretty much sold out in 24 hours with a huge mix of boxers, fans and kids.

“It is a true honour to have Ricky doing a workshop as he is still in the public’s eyes one of the best most loved boxers the UK have ever seen.”
