Salford photography studio who provide ‘confidence boost’ for women up for National Vintage Award

A Salford photography and make-up studio who aim to provide a ‘confidence boost’ for women and make visitors leave feeling ‘ten foot tall’ have been nominated at this year’s National Vintage Awards.

HMS Vintage, located in Broughton, are up for the Best Vintage Photography award at the ceremony which takes place in Cheltenham on Wednesday July 15.

Inspired by pin-up girls and classical Hollywood glamour, the studio offers an array of award winning vintage makeovers and vintage themed photography.

Ian Brooke, owner of HMS Vintage, revealed his delight at the nomination and called on Mancunians to give him a helping hand.

“I’ve worked so hard to build up my business and to have national recognition would be amazing,” he said.

“I’d love for everyone in Manchester to vote and I’m thrilled to be up for this award.”

The National Vintage Awards was launched three years ago to celebrate, showcase and reward the independent businesses who are inspired by the past and responsible for growing the vintage industry in the UK.
HMS Vintage opened its doors in 2013 and came about after Ian met Hair & Make-Up artist Ewa Baberska, who both shared a love of vintage photography and silver screen icons.
The studio went on to win two awards that same year in the Manchester Vintage Awards for both Best New Business and Best photography.

Ian revealed that that business aimed to provide a confidence boost for women by providing ‘flattering’ photography.

“It is incredibly important to me that all our visitors have a positive experience with us and walk out feeling ten feet tall,” he said.

“If we can change the way that someone looks at themselves, through flattering photography and inspire them to go on and become more confident then I have achieved what I set out to do.”
