A 23-year-old man has died after being shot with a Taser gun by police who were responding to calls of a disturbance in Gorton, Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police found a man armed with a knife following a 999 call reporting a disturbance on Beard Road at 8.15pm.

They attempted to detain the man by shooting him with a Taser, however he suffered a ‘medical episode’.

Paramedics performed first aid at the scene, before he was rushed to hospital, where he died.

Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said: “Greater Manchester Police has reported the incident to Her Majesty’s Coroner and to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and is working with them to establish the full circumstances that lead to the man’s death.

“Specially trained family liaison officers are supporting his family during this very difficult time.”
