Chants of ‘free, free Palestine’ across Piccadilly Gardens in protest over Israel conflict

Protesters chanted ‘free, free Palestine’ in Piccadilly Gardens last night as they voiced their opposition to Israeli ‘oppression’ in Palestine.

The Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign encouraged Mancunians to support the fight for a free Palestine.

Their protest comes following further bloodshed between the two countries, as more than 100 civilians were killed this week.

Linda Clair, Chair of the PRC, led the protest and encouraged Mancunians to join forces with the oppressed Palestinians.

She said: “We need a mass movement if we want to make a difference.”

“We need to be in it for the long haul.”

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has endured for years.

Extensive discussions aided by the United States as well as neighbouring countries have been marred by an inability to reach any long-lasting agreements.

This week, Israel answered a rocket attack, launched from Lebanon with a lethal air strike.

More than one hundred civilians were killed.

Supporting the cause, Pauline Hamilton, a retiree from Hume, told MM: “I am here to show support for the people of Gaza and West Bank against Israeli oppression.”

The 69-year-old added: “We have to do what we can to stop what the Israelis are doing.”

Israel is home to more than eight million inhabitants comprising primarily of Jewish and Arab descent.

Surrounded by Arab nations, Israel has vowed to respond mercilessly to attacks on its nation.
