No God here! The First Atheist Church to arrive in Manchester on world tour… just don’t mention the man upstairs

By Alex Lanigan

The First Atheist Church has chosen Manchester as its next unspiritual arena this month as it embarks on its 40 Dates and 40 Night’s road show across the globe.

The Sunday Assembly is a godless congregation that celebrate life. Their motto is: live better, help often, wonder more…just don’t mention the man upstairs.

The show is travelling to locations all over the world including Sydney, Los Angeles and New York with Manchester playing host to their non-beliefs on Wednesday October 30 at 7pm.

The event has been co-ordinated by Sue Millichap who has expressed her delight at being part of the tour.

“It will be the first gathering of Sunday Assembly Manchester,” said Ms Millichap.

“We’re delighted to be part of the tour and to have comedians Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans host the first meeting.

“We are hoping to have a house choir and a house band who can lead communal singing.”

Even with the Atheist church preaching a very different type of sermon to its scores of none believing fans, there are some similarities keeping in tradition with religious churches.

“All future assemblies will take place on a Sunday, the first Sunday of the month to begin with,” Ms Millichap said.

However even with tickets selling out fast, Ms Millichap admitted that the road show is currently without a venue and are currently in talks with a various places.
