Edin Dzeko 'is not happy' in super-sub role after saving Manchester City's title chase against Tottenham

Super-sub Edin Dzeko clinched another last-gasp winner for Manchester City against Tottenham Hotspur but he is not content to sit on the bench, Blues boss Roberto Mancini has revealed.

The Bosnian struck in the 88th minute to secure three points for City, adding to Sergio Aguero’s levelling goal after Steven Caulker had put Spurs ahead in the first half.

But Dzeko – who has scored six of his seven goals this season as a substitute – would rather be playing from the first whistle instead of rescuing City before the final whistle.

“He is not happy,” the Italian said. “A player who is happy on the bench does not exist.

“We had three important strikers today, last year we won the championship because of goals from our strikers, today we missed some goals from them but hopefully they can score again soon."

The victory cuts Manchester United’s advantage at the top of the Premier League to two points, with City responding to a disappointing stalemate against West Ham United last Saturday.

And Mancini believed his side, who had two penalty claims turned down by referee Kevin Friend, rallied back with help from the Etihad Stadium support.

“Today we deserved to win this game,” he said. “The players were fantastic, the supporters were fantastic and in the second half they were like the 12th player on the pitch.”

“We are unlucky with the referee at the moment,” the 47-year-old added.
