'We'll always be fighting League One drop': Hill stays real ahead of Swindon trip

Rochdale boss Keith Hill says that his side are in a constant battle to stay in League One ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Swindon Town.

Dale will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-1 home FA Cup defeat to Bury which leaves them with interest only league interest for the rest of the campaign.

Although Rochdale are currently eight points from the drop zone in 13th place, Hill was keen to remind supporters that he feels the club is still overachieving.

“We’ll always be fighting relegation whether we’re top of the league, middle of the league or bottom of the league because that’s just the way it is,” Hill said.

“We’re right on point with where we should be to make sure that we avoid getting in any relegation battle.

“We’re still creating a similar amount of chances that we were last season, we’re just not putting those chances away and we’ve got to get better at that for us to scratch up to what we were doing last season.

“There’s going to be ups and downs through every season but we’ve got to keep the points ticking over.

“We’ll see where we are points wise after the next three league fixtures. We have to play to a high tempo but everyone has to be forgiving.”

Hill also reminisced about his side’s 3-2 victory in this fixture last season.

“It was an amazing, amazing evening because I thought we did absolutely superbly in a technical game and we nullified them.

“They found it difficult playing against us. At 2-2 there was only one team going to win that game and it was Swindon.

“I was sweating underneath my hat on the touchline hoping for the clock to run down and then it was decided by the footballing Gods that we won that game.

“The celebrations at the end were tremendous. It was a brilliant, brilliant victory.”
