‘You can’t build a house on sand’: Dunn lays foundations for Oldham home success

David Dunn has reiterated that it will take time to get Oldham out of their slump, as they look to break the Boundary Park shackles with a home victory over Millwall this weekend.

The Londoners travel up to Oldham in seventh place, but have suffered from inconsistency since a blistering run propelled them up the table in October.

Latics, meanwhile, languish in the relegation zone and have won just once on home soil this season, a statistic Dunn is desperate to turn around over the festive period.

“I’d like to have five home games all back-to-back if I could,” said Dunn.

“Home form seems to be what we are severely lacking at the minute. I have to live and die by my decisions, but the form needs to improve at home.

“Where we are is the reality, but it is going to take time. You can’t build a house on sand – the foundations need to be better which is what we are working on.

“This home form is something that has been happening for 12 months and we need to improve that. I know talk is cheap and we need to go over that line and produce.”

Oldham have now lost their last four in all competitions, including FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United last weekend.

The Blades have now been drawn away to Manchester United in the third round, but Dunn insists his focus is firmly on Saturday’s clash with Millwall where he welcomes back loanees Jay Fulton, Michael Higdon and Richie Wellens.

“Millwall are very competitive, so it will be a tough game for us,” said Dunn.

“We will have to stand up to those battling qualities they show, especially early on. They will be dangerous.

“The fans can make a huge difference with home form. Someone has got to break the circle for anything to change.

“If the fans can be our 12th man then that would be great and there would be no one more chuffed than me to have them in full voice, signing away.”
