Manchester Phoenix prepare for War of the Roses battle against Sheffield Steeldogs

Manchester Phoenix face two home games this weekend as they look to earn much-needed Premier League points and secure a War of the Roses win.

On Saturday Phoenix play host to the Sheffield Steeldogs in the first clash of the War of the Roses competition, an annual fixture contested by the two teams.

Bracknell Bees then travel to Deeside for a Premier League clash both sides will hope to win.

Bracknell sit only one place off the bottom with just seven wins out of 22 and seven points below eighth-placed Phoenix.

Phoenix have fallen down the table in recent weeks after problems on and off the ice, including multiple injuries to key players.

Tony Hand’s Phoenix played just one game last weekend in a loss against Basingstoke Bison at Deeside in the first of five home games for the Mancunian side.

Last week the new Phoenix Supporters Trust was also launched, giving fans the opportunity to invest in the club as well as being able to play an active role in the club’s future.

After departing from Altrincham Ice Rink at the end of last season, the club found a new home across the border at the National Centre for Ice Sports in Deeside, North Wales.

Phoenix owner Neil Morris stressed the importance of ensuring Phoenix have a home next season.

“Our priority is to secure the long-term future of the Manchester Phoenix and the only way to do this is to secure a permanent home in Manchester,” said Morris.

“Plans for the new rink are progressing but we are in need of immediate funding to complete the remainder of this season.

“The Phoenix fans have always played a crucial role in the success of the club, particularly this season with the difficulties in playing out of North Wales.

“But I know that everyone is excited about the prospect of a return to Manchester. I would urge everyone who wants to support the future of the Phoenix to join the Supporters Trust.”
