Go Walkies: Manchester Dogs’ Home host first event since horrific fire eight months ago

Get your leads at the ready and pooches get steady as Manchester Dogs’ Home announces their annual sponsored dog walk – their first event since the fire that killed 59 dogs.

Volunteers and workers at the home are calling all dog lovers to the event on Sunday May 24, eight months after the blaze that swept through the Harpurhey kennel.

To pay tribute to the helpless canines that perished in the arson attack on September 11 2014, which sent shock-waves across the country, 59 balloons will be launched in Debdale Park.

The Go Walkies event hopes to bring together dog lovers and enthusiastic pooches to walk around Gorton Park to raise cash for the home’s continued restoration work.

Volunteers also want to remind the public, who raised over £1million on crowd funding website Just Giving for the rebuild, the importance of the home.
