Man, 46, dies after falling down stairs on Stagecoach double-decker bus in Stockport

By Steven Brown

A man died after falling backwards down the stairs of a double-decker bus in Stockport on Friday.

The 46-year-old man, who boarded the 383 Stagecoach bus around 5.30pm, had a carrier bag in his left hand and a crutch in his right hand.

As he followed his partner upstairs on the bus he fell backwards onto the floor, which led to a head injury.

The bus was moving at the time.

Inspector Matthew Bailey-Smith from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our sympathies are with the man’s family at this very difficult time and we are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this man’s fall and how he came to suffer his head injury.”

The man was taken into hospital for treatment to his injury but unfortunately died late last night.

Inspector Bailey-Smith added: “We are appealing for any witnesses who were travelling last night at around 5.30pm on the 383 bus.”

If anyone saw anything or has any information should call police directly on 0161 856 4742.
