Openshaw woman grabbed by kidnapper in broad daylight saved by passer-by

Following the attempted kidnapping of a woman in broad daylight in Openshaw, Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The 22-year-old victim was walking along Abbey Hey Lane when a man driving a green VW Beetle pulled up alongside her at 1:35pm on Friday August 7.

He asked her to come to the car but she refused.  He asked again and when she refused, the man got out and grabbed her, picking her up by the waist.

The offender carried the woman to his car but a passer-by intervened, causing the man to let his victim go before driving off towards Capital Road.

Detective Constable Nick Fernandes said: “This was in broad daylight and I believe a number of people may have witnessed what happened.

“I am particularly eager to trace the woman who intervened as she is a key witness into this investigation.

“If you are that person, I would urge you to get in touch as soon as possible.”

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and has been bailed until 9 September 2015.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 3538 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
