Attack victim vanishes from Salford Royal with head injury that could trigger cardiac arrest at any time

By Danielle Wainwright

UPDATE: Ahmed has now been found safe and well.

A man who suffered a serious head injury and broken bones after a brutal attack in Blackley last week has disappeared from hospital yesterday and risks losing consciousness and going into cardiac arrest due to his head injury.

Mohammed Ahmed, 41, was attacked on Victoria Avenue on Thursday September 5 and suffered broken bones in his face and a serious head injury.

Mr Ahmed, from north Manchester, left Salford Royal Hospital at around 8pm and medical

staff have been advised that his condition is still precarious and potentially life threatening.

The nature of his head injury is so severe that he could, without warning, lose consciousness and go into cardiac arrest.

Detective Inspector Ian Harratt said: “Mohammed left hospital despite being told that he needed to stay for treatment and now all are concerned for his welfare.

“It is no exaggeration to say that his life could be in danger and we would ask anyone who thinks they may have seen him to call police as soon as possible.

“We continue to make a number of enquiries to trace him.”

He is described as being an Asian man, of stocky build, 5ft 6in tall and with a shaven-headed. He was last seen wearing a black dressing gown, and orange hospital trousers.

Officers understand that Mohammed may be travelling to London. He could be driving either a 3-Series BMW, reg YC57 FEK or a LDV van, reg LJ08 LDX.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 999 or 101.
