Olympic mogul champion excited for first European Indoor Championships at Manchester’s Chill Factore

Salt Lake City Winter Olympic moguls gold medallist Janne Lahtela is in Manchester this weekend for the first European and British Indoor Moguls Championships.

The FIS accredited event, the first of its kind in England, has attracted the most talented skiers from around the world including the 2002 Olympic champion.

Looking on to the slope, Lahtela, who also claimed silver at Nagano in 1998 as well as world championship gold a year later, was extremely impressed by the fantastic facilities.

“The course looks amazing,” Lahtela told MM.  “There is strong competition and I think it’s going to be a really good weekend.”

Despite having appeared in the Winter Olympics since 1992, the sport has never been competed indoors, a prospect Chris David, Chill Factore’s Snow Sports Manager, is relishing.

“We are thrilled to be hosting the European Indoor Championships,” said David. “Especially as it is the first time the skiing world has seen such an event.

“We can’t wait to tear some of the world’s best mogul skiers away from the Alps and welcome them to Manchester – we know they are going to love competing here at Chill Factore.”

Entry is free for the public and the Chill Factore team are urging everyone to come down and witness a spectacular weekend of moguls skiing, which begins tomorrow morning and runs through until Sunday evening.
