It’s official! Man Utd's Class of '92 complete takeover of minnows Salford City FC

Former Manchester United stars’ protracted takeover of Salford City FC is now official as their buyout with business partner Peter Lim has been approved.

Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt own 50% of the club with Singapore-based Lim, who recently took over Valencia, owning the remaining half.

Since the quintet, part of the United’s Class of ’92, became involved in Salford City, interest in the non-league side has increased rapidly.

A spokesperson from the club told MM: “There has been a massive increase in Twitter followers due to the Class of ‘92 involvement.

“I don't think most of the 24,000 Twitter followers are particularly interested in results, more the names involved.”

Salford City are currently third in the Evo-Stik Division One North, six points behind Darlington 1883 with two games in hand.

And after the deal was ratified from the FA and the Northern Premier League the new owners have set their sights on promotion to the football league.

The five also aim to replicate the footballing ethos they experienced at United, which they hope to pass on to young local hopefuls.

They have all been involved with the club for several months since they first announced the takeover in March, attending games, taking training sessions and assisting with the day-to-day running of the club.
