You decide: Shoppers asked to pick charity of choice for new Manchester store

A new Manchester store is looking to get shoppers involved in the community by offering them the chance to decide its charity – which will then receive 1% of its annual profits.

White Stuff are asking shoppers to pick between Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) and Wood Street Mission as the stores charity of choice.

The company, which will be opening a store on Kings Road in August, pride themselves on donating at least 1% of its annual profits to charity and every store they own is assigned a local charity.

Senior Marketing Manager for White Stuff, Jessica Doherty told MM: “Instead of us just dictating the charity we want to support, we wanted to get the community involved.

“We find it really helps with engagement which for as a brand is really important.

“We just wanted to give something back as a brand because we’re really community focused.”

GMYN is a charity working with some of the most disadvantaged young people in the region.

This includes children in care, young careers, disabled young people, homeless young people and many others who face significant barriers.

Wood Street Mission is a charity that helps children and families living in poverty and both have been deliberately picked to support young people.

“The White Stuff foundation which is our charity, the mission of it is to support young adults and children so when we’re looking at shortlisting charities we look for charities that do that,” said Ms Doherty.

“The winning charity we will work with them periodically throughout the year and we give our shops quite a lot of freedom to do events for charity like holding raffles and bake sales.

“Sometimes charities have family days and we support with prizes for raffles.”

Voting for the event ends on July 21.
