Man arrested on suspicion of Horwich bank robbery where female employee was punched in face

A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a bank in Horwich yesterday and punching a female employee in the face before fleeing with cash.

The robbery which happened shortly before 11.30am in Santander on on Lee Lane saw two men wielding weapons, jump over the counter and assault the woman.

The men then fled in a red Ford Focus which was waiting near Station Park and drove away down Chorley New Road.

The car was later recovered at the back of Thornleigh School on Moss Lea.

Detective Sergeant Rob Parker said: “We are urging anyone who was in the area that morning who may have seen a red Ford Focus with a 12 plate either before the incident happened or driving away afterwards to contact police.

“We believe there was at least one other man in the car as well as the two offenders who went into the bank and we are working hard to identify them.

“The woman suffered a minor cut to her face and is of course extremely shaken. If you know anything about what happened or who may be involved we would urge you to call us.”

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in police custody for questioning.
