Sexual abusers were warned that no amount of time will keep them safe from the law by a detective sergeant outside Manchester Crown Court today.
This stark warning follows today’s guilty verdict on an historic five-year sex abuse case which was first reported back in 2007.
Peter Scott, 59, of Wythenshawe, received an eight-year sentence having pleaded guilty to eight counts of gross indecency and 17 counts of indecent assault on a child.
Although the incident was reported six years ago, much of the abuse took place in the 1980s on three separate girls, two were as young as 11 at the time.
Detective Sergeant Suzanne Keenaghan, who was involved in the manhunt and investigation, sent a strong message to sex offenders who committed historic sex crimes.
She said: “To say this happened in 1980s and we have today’s result shows that it doesn’t matter how long ago it happened – they reported it in 2007 and only got justice in 2013.”
The lengthy manhunt for Scott encountered a number of twists and turns as he spent a brief amount of time in Wales before he fled the country to France where he was found living rough before being extradited back to the UK.
At the end of such a long case the Detective Sergeant Keenaghan commended the victims’ composure throughout the experience.
She said: “I am happy with the sentence and the victims also seem pleased, safe in knowing he is finally behind bars.”
