Concerned Manchester officers were forced to urge people to only call 999 in an emergency after telephone systems were knocked out of action by technical problems today.
The services went down shortly after 1pm today and technicians battled to solve the issues with minor consequence.
Although emergency lines were affected, Greater Manchester Police succesfully prioritised calls for help to ensure that all important incidents went unaffected.
A spokesman for GMP said: “All of GMP's telephone systems are now operating as normal.
"While technicians have been working to resolve the issue, all 999 calls that GMP received were answered and responded to.
"People can now call the non-emergency number as usual."
