Did I mention how important Aguero is? Pellegrini wants you to know how important Sergio is for Manchester City

By Alan Ross

The last thing Blackburn Rovers will want to see is that the already rampant Manchester City have added their league top-scorer Sergio Aguero to the squad list for the FA Cup replay on Wednesday.

And manager Manuel Pellegrini wants you to know just how ‘important’ he thinks this is. In fact, the Chilean used the word five times in just a handful of sentences.

Aguero, who has scored 19 goals in 20 appearances this season, is likely to return to action in the FA Cup third round replay having been absent since picking up a calf injury during City’s match against Arsenal in December.

Pellegrini, delighted by not only Aguero’s return but also because City have already scored more than the 93 goals they racked up all of last season, confirmed the Argentinian striker is ready to play and may well feature against Rovers.

“Sergio is working as normal with the whole squad and he is in the squad list for tomorrow. We’ll see tomorrow if he can play,” he said.

“Of course he is a very important player for us. It doesn’t matter if we are scoring a lot of goals, Sergio will always be an important player and we are very happy that he is back.”

With Samir Nasri out injured for eight weeks the depth of Pellegrini’s squad will be tested in the coming weeks with City still challenging for honours in four different competitions.

“It’s very important because we have not only important games coming up, but we have a lot of games also and all of them are important for us because we are for the moment the only team that are in four competitions and we want to continue,” he said.

Rovers though are not intimidated by a trip to the Etihad despite City averaging close to four goals per game at home.

Blackburn forward Rudy Gestede told rovers.co.uk: “There is no pressure on us, there is no fear. We are going to go over there and do our best.

“Maybe now they’ll treat us like a better team and play their better players and maybe a higher tempo.”
