Four questioned by police over vicious assault of two teenagers in Newton Heath

Four men are being questioned by police after two teenagers were seriously assaulted in Newton Heath.

The boy and the girl, both 15, were attacked by 12 men in Briscoe Lane last Saturday afternoon, around 2.20pm, with the male left with a broken arm as well as requiring stitches for a facial injury when he was hit with a weapon.

The girl was left with a fractured cheekbone and other facial injuries before the men jumped back into their cars – a silver Peugeot 306, a black Volkswagen Passat and a dark coloured Vauxhall Astra – and drove off towards Ten Acres Lane. 

The men were arrested in a number of raids across Openshaw, Crumpsall and Moss Side, and were detained on suspiscioun of wounding with intent. 

Police have also recovered a number of vehicles as part of the investigation. 

Detective Sergeant Jim Slack, Greater Manchester Police, said: “Firstly I would like thank the public for their fantastic response to our media appeals. 

“As a direct result of the information provided we have executed a number of warrants this morning and arrested four people in connection with this appalling assault. 

“While we have taken this next step in our investigation I continue to urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to us to please do so.”
