Bury a team everyone wants to beat, says Flitcroft pre Shrewsbury clash

Bury boss David Flitcroft says Shrewsbury Town will be coming to win their top of the table clash, following the Shakers victory away at Newport County.

The returning Ryan Lowe opened the scoring midway through the first half, turning Chris Hussey’s drive into the net, before Daniel Nardiello secured the win.

After equalling a club record six straight away wins, the Shakers welcome title chasing Shrewsbury to the JD Stadium for a game under the floodlights.

“Tuesday night is another big game, but there have been big games all season, Bury is a team everyone wants to beat,” he said.

“These players have put in very good performances in those types of games all season.

“This team is making progress and if we have got a record then fantastic, but there is a bigger objective than setting away records.”

Bury will be looking for revenge against the second placed side who inflicted a 5-0 demolition in the corresponding fixture earlier in the campaign.

If the Shakers are to have any hope of catching Town, as well as leaders Burton Albion, they need to secure all three points on Tuesday night.

Flitcroft revealed ahead of the Newport game that goal-scoring strikers, Lowe and Nardiello, are unlikely to be able to play two games in the space of four days.

Therefore he may be forced to reshuffle his pack to keep players fresh, with Bury facing three games in the next seven days.

But experienced midfielder Chris Sedgwick believes there is no pressure on the Shakers and they should revel being in their position for the run in.

“Pressure does funny things to teams, I’ve been in the position being chased which isn’t nice when people are expecting things,” he said.

“The teams above know if they slip up we will be on them, they’re probably coming in and thinking Bury have won again.

“There is no real pressure on us, we just need to win games and then see where it takes us.”
