Ferguson had lasting impression on me, says France star Jeremy Menez despite snubbing Manchester United move

Paris St Germain and France winger Jeremy Menez claimed a meeting with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had a lasting impression on him.

The 25-year-old star snubbed a move to the Reds ten years ago but said his professional career was helped by a chat with Fergie when he was a teenager.

The French international – who did not play against England in Euro 2012 – did not want to move abroad and stayed in his homeland.

"It was a real pleasure," he said. "Manchester, I saw them on TV. This is a great coach, great players, and I was flattered that this club is interested in me.

"In Ferguson's office, with my brother, there was much talk, he explained what he wanted with me, but it was too early to go abroad. Well, I still hesitate, it's true.

"You tell yourself that it may be now or never. But in these times, we must remain calm. It was only three years I was at Sochaux and I was not necessarily a hurry to leave. A few obvious choices do not regret it."

Menez has played for Monaco and Roma, but returned to France in an £8million move to PSG.

United’s missed opportunities include Paul Gascoigne, Ronaldinho, Arjen Robben and Joe Hart but wingers of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs’ calibre were already at the club.
