MM’s top five… Fantasy football league purchases for the 2017/18 season

As Premier League clubs prepare for the upcoming season, fans across the country are busy selecting their fantasy football teams.

Here MM help with a value-for-money look at Manchester United and Manchester City’s players.

Lindelof – Man Utd

United new boy Victor Lindelof could be a smart choice when looking for a mid-price defender. Valued at £5.5m, Lindelof has been on Jose Mourinho’s radar and is likely to start at the heart of the defence.

Pogba – Man Utd

If United are able to land a quality defensive midfielder this window, expect Paul Pogba to have a big season. Pogba has shown for France and Juventus he’s at his best when played further forward in the midfield.

Pogba and Romelu Lukaku could form a deadly partnership and with most of Pogba’s assists last season going to United’s previous number 9, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his £8m value is likely to increase as the season goes on.

De Bruyne – Man City

Kevin De Bruyne should be one of your first choices for midfield. Whilst expensive at £10m, the Belgian topped the league for assists last season and was one of the few City players to stay in the starting 11 as manager Pep Guardiola experimented.

Versatile and intelligent at reading the game, De Bruyne will certainly be a starter for City and that £10m will be a wise investment.

Silva – Man City

If De Bruyne’s too expensive, then Bernardo Silva at £8m is a suitable replacement. The Portuguese player is equally adept at playing in numerous positions and contributed to 18 goals for free-scoring Monaco last season.

Arriving for £50m at the Etihad before the window even opened, Guardiola clearly has plans for him and could be a useful addition to the midfield.

Jesus – Man City

Both clubs offer tempting striker options. Lukaku and Sergio Aguero are both valued at £11.5m but both have drawbacks.

Aguero frequently needs treatment for injuries while Lukaku will have the pressure of his price tag hanging over him.

Overall, Gabriel Jesus presents the best option. At £10.5m he’s not cheap but Guardiola is clearly a fan of the younger who only started playing for City in late January, bagging himself seven goals and four assists.

Jesus should be one of the players to lead the line for your team.
